Landscape and Horticulture Management

Specialization is designed for those students who are interested in maintenance, installation, and landscape design of turf-grasses, trees and shrubs found in the landscape. Graduates may become involved in planning and maintenance of residential and commercial landscapes such as parks and other public areas. Private work, to make the environment more useful and esthetically pleasing, may be another option for our graduates. In addition to plant science course work, major emphasis is placed on business, personnel management, as well as environmental protection. These students have interesting and exciting careers in environmental landscaping, interior plant maintenance, management, production, and merchandising. Employment opportunities range from small businesses to large industries or becoming an entrepreneur.

Plant and Soil Science Concentration

The Plant Science curriculum offers a broad education in global food and fiber production systems. Students study a diverse spectrum of plants and their roles in agriculture, medicine, and therapy. Students are also exposed to biotechnology, nutrient cycling and the potential use of specific plants in waste management and environmental remediation. The operation of plant enterprises, based on the environmentally sound principles of agroecology, are also addressed. The curriculum provides a strong background for graduate studies.
